Gareth Armstrong

Gareth co-heads the general sector advisory team at RMB, Clairfield’s partner in South Africa. He brings over 18 years of experience in corporate finance and investment banking, advising on disposals, M&A, IPOs, capital raising, debt restructuring, private equity, strategic reviews, and joint ventures. His sector focus includes consumer, healthcare, services, and industrials.

Gareth has advised on numerous high-profile transactions. On the buy side, he supported CIVH on the acquisition of Vumatel and a stake in Herotel; Mediclinic on its ZAR 1.6 billion acquisition of Clinique La Colline and Meggen in Switzerland, and its ZAR 8 billion acquisition of a 29.9% stake in UK-listed Spire Healthcare; and Life Healthcare on its ZAR 14 billion acquisition of UK-based Alliance Medical Group and related ZAR 9 billion rights issue. On the sell side, he has been involved with The Beverage Company (BevCo) on its ZAR 3 billion sale to India-listed Varun Beverages, and Life Healthcare on the ZAR 21 billion sale of Alliance Medical Group to iCON Infrastructure.

Gareth’s capital markets and restructuring experience includes Richemont’s ZAR 196 billion secondary inward listing of CFR A shares on the JSE and ZAR 35.9 billion listing following warrant exercises; the ZAR 7 billion IPO of Premier FMCG on the JSE; SAB/AB InBev’s ZAR 5.8 billion BEE deal and JSE listing.

Gareth graduated from Stellenbosch University with a degree in biotechnology and holds an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand.
