Joan Franco

Joan joined Clairfield in Spain in 2026 as senior advisor. He brings more than 40 years of experience in the engineering sector as a founder, chairman and senior executive.

In 1991 he founded Paymacotas, where he progressed from technical director to chairman, leading the company until 2008. He then served as vice president of Bureau Veritas for the Mediterranean area. In 2009 he founded BAC Engineering Consultancy Group, bringing six companies together under a single group, and he remains its chairman. BAC now forms part of the international SOCOTEC group.

Joan served as president of Tecniberia, the Spanish association of engineering, consultancy and technology services companies, from 2022 to 2026. He sits on the boards of Tecniberia and ASINCA, (Association of engineering firms in Catalonia).

Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos awarded him its Medal for Professional Merit in 2017 and its Ildefonso Cerdà Medal in 2026.

Joan graduated from the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering with a degree in civil engineering, specialising in transport, ports and urban planning. He also completed the general management programme (PDG) at IESE Business School.
