Alex is head of the automotive, logistics and industrials (ALI) advisory group at RMB, Clairfield’s partner in South Africa. He joined the company in 2015, bringing over 11 years of experience in investment banking and corporate advisory services. Prior to ALI, Alex spent six years as part of the natural resources advisory group.
Alex has extensive advisory experience in M&A, capital raisings, corporate restructurings and strategic advisory assignments. He has advised on numerous high-profile transactions and his recent transaction highlights include advising the Barloworld Independent Board on the ZAR17.6 billion buyout and delisting of the group; Grindrod’s ZAR1.4 billion acquisition of the remaining 35% stake in Terminal de Carvao da Matola (Mozambique) from Vitol; Metair Investments’ US$110million sale of its Turkish automotive battery operations to Quexco; Taylor Maritime Investments’ US$506 million (100%) acquisition of NASDAQ-listed Grindrod Shipping; Anglo American’s ZAR3.5 billion listing and unbundling of Thungela Resources on the JSE and LSE; and Seriti Resources ZAR2.6 billion acquisition of South Africa Energy Coal from South 32.
Alex graduated from the University of Johannesburg with an honours degree in accounting and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) and a CFA Charterholder.
