Marcel Franzen

Marcel has over 25 years’ experience in global corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions advisory. He advises listed companies, family-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, financial sponsors and family offices on complex M&A and capital markets transactions, with a particular focus on Swiss and European crossborder situations.

In addition to M&A, Marcel brings extensive capital markets experience, including advisory on IPO preparations, rights issues, equity offerings, and alternative financing solutions. He began his career in 1999 at Merrill Lynch in New York and London. He later played a key role in building Morgan Stanley’s Swiss investment banking activities from London and Zurich, before becoming a partner at Swiss Capital Group (now Alantra). His work focuses on sellside mandates, carve-outs, strategic acquisitions, and ownership transitions, often involving complex governance, crossborder structuring and public-market considerations.

In 2013, Marcel founded Franzen & Company AG, Clairfield’s partner in Switzerland. He works directly with shareholders, boards and management teams throughout the full transaction lifecycle, from strategic preparation to execution and closing. The firm works with select international partners to provide global buyer and investor access to crossborder mandates.

Marcel holds a master’s degree in finance and business administration from the University of St. Gallen (HSG).
