Sector snapshot H2 2024: specialty chemicals
Our industrials sector co-head Tom McCarthy recently took a look at the specialty chemicals sector.
Positively, he noted an uptick in larger deal values. Transactions valued above US$500 million doubled from 3 in H1 2024 to 6, while activity in the US$100–500 million range also experienced growth. Despite difficult trading conditions there are encouraging signs of increasing appetite for M&A in the sector, particularly in the APAC region.
Transaction activity within this sector during the second half of 2024 reached 148 deals, marking a 7% increase compared to the first half of 2024, in line with the long-term average of 139 deals per half year. Financial buyer activity accounted for over 34% of transactions in H2 2024, declining marginally from the 38% recorded in H1 2024.
