West Wales Airport sold to TEKEVER
West Wales Airport, the UK’s leading centre for the testing and evaluation of Unmanned Aerial Systems, was sold to TEKEVER, Europe’s leader in AI-driven autonomous and unmanned systems.
West Wales Airport (WWA) offers a world-class UAS flying environment, operating as a key hub for UAS testing & evaluation with access to 2,500 square miles of restricted airspace over land and sea, making it one of the most advanced environments for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) testing in Europe. The airport has played a pivotal role in supporting defence and security operations, hosting trials for organisations such as the UK Home Office and Royal Navy.
TEKEVER is a European leader in AI-driven autonomous systems, specialising in unmanned aerial solutions for defence and security. With operations across the UK, France, and Portugal, TEKEVER delivers advanced UAS technology for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions, supporting NATO and allied forces through rapid innovation and real-world deployments.
Under TEKEVER’s ownership, West Wales Airport will be expanded into a national hub for unmanned systems testing and evaluation, providing critical infrastructure for defence innovation and rapid technology development. The transaction also brings significant regional benefits, including skilled job creation and opportunities for local businesses, reinforcing the UK’s position as a leader in advanced defence technologies.
Ricardo Mendes, CEO of TEKEVER, commented: “West Wales has long been central to our UK operations and global growth – allowing us to become part of thriving community, and have access to a fantastic infrastructure and amazing people. As defence spending rises and geopolitical threats grow, the demand for AI-driven autonomous systems is only increasing. Acquiring West Wales Airport strengthens our ability to meet that demand while advancing our OVERMATCH programme. This is just the beginning – we’re accelerating our investments and pushing forward at pace.”
Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, commented: “TEKEVER is one of Europe’s leading and fastest growing companies in the unmanned aerial systems sector. Its acquisition of West Wales Airport in Ceredigion supports its ambitious expansion plans in the UK and will deliver significant benefits for the national defence ecosystem and regional economy of mid and west Wales alike.”
“Where do you start when selling an airport that specialises in providing an environment suited to the test and evaluation of remotely piloted air systems? This was the dilemma we faced, until we were introduced to Clairfield. From the outset the Clairfield team guided us through every step of the way to a successful sale. What is a very challenging and stressful time was made less so by Tom McCarthy and Adam Grenfell with their calm and professional approach, providing invaluable advice and support. Clairfield’s expertise in their field is exceptional. Tom was always available to answer our questions and explain matters clearly.I cannot recommend the Clairfield team highly enough to anyone seeking help with a business sale. Their knowledge, professionalism and attitude is second to none. I am extremely grateful to them for achieving the sale of our business.”
