Clariens Educação, backed by Mubadala Capital, acquired Universidade Vila Velha (UVV)
Clariens Educação, a premium-focused higher education platform, backed by Mubadala Capital, acquired Universidade Vila Velha.
The parties
Clariens Educação is a premium higher education platform controlled by global asset management company Mubadala Capital, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company headquartered in Abu Dhabi. Clariens trains medical and healthcare professionals. Before this deal it operated institutions in Bahia, Goiás and Minas Gerais.
Universidade Vila Velha (UVV) was founded in 1974 and is one of Brazil’s leading private higher education institutions. With more than 15,000 students, it offers undergraduate, graduate, medical residency, master’s and doctoral programmes, taught on campus, in hybrid format and by distance learning. UVV has a strong reputation for academic quality in medicine and health sciences. It holds 221 medical school seats.
The outcome
Clariens Educação has acquired UVV. The deal takes Clariens into Espírito Santo for the first time and adds its first university to the portfolio. Clariens now runs a national higher education platform across four states: Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. The UVV brand will stay in place, and Clariens plans to invest further and connect the university with the rest of its institutions.
Clairfield’s role
Clairfield’s partner in Brazil, Àrtica, acted as exclusive financial advisor to Clariens Educação. This is the third acquisition of Clariens that Clairfield has advised on in the last four years.
“UVV is a strong and respected brand in Espírito Santo. We will preserve this legacy while expanding our capacity to invest and creating new opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers through greater integration with Clariens’ other institutions, bringing the UVV name to audiences across Brazil.”
