Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg acquired Universitätsklinikum Mannheim
Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg acquired 89.9% of the shares in Universitätsklinikum Mannheim, becoming the largest European university hospital group.
As of January 2026, the merged German university hospital group will be the “Lighthouse” with international radiance for cutting-edge medicine and medical research. The newly established entity will have 90 specialized clinics with around 2,800 beds providing more than 100.000 inpatients and almost 1.5 million people with outpatient care every year. With more than 20,000 employees, the group will be also one of the biggest employers in the region. Together, the merged university group will generate annual revenues of circa EUR 1.8 billion.
As the financial advisor and external project manager of Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg (UKHD), Clairfield advised on this highly complex and demanding transaction with a project duration of more than 4 years.
In close and excellent collaboration with the internal project managers of UKHD, Clairfield acted as the project management office, coordinating and moderating all due diligence; conceptual work and pre-merger activities of all involved consultant and internal teams.
Clairfield acted as exclusive advisor to Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg.
